Kenacort features Triamcinolone Acetonide as its primary active component. It falls under the category of drugs known as corticosteroids. Kenacort inhibits the release of certain substances in the body that lead to inflammation. It is utilized to alleviate inflammation and itching associated with various conditions, including ulcerative colitis and arthritis.

The anti-inflammatory effects of corticosteroids are believed to involve lipocortins, which are proteins that inhibit phospholipase A2. These proteins help regulate the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting arachidonic acid. Initially, these glucocorticoids attach to glucocorticoid receptors that relocate into the nucleus and interact with DNA (GRE), influencing genetic expression in both positive and negative ways. Corticosteroids suppress the immune system by impairing the function of the lymphatic system, lowering immunoglobulin and complement levels, causing lymphocytopenia, and interfering with antigen-antibody interactions.

Kenacort can lead to several side effects, including aggression, agitation, anxiety, blurred vision, reduced urine output, dizziness, rapid, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat, headache, irritability, mental depression, mood swings, nervousness, rattling breathing, numbness or tingling in the limbs, tinnitus, shortness of breath, swelling in the fingers, hands, feet, or lower legs, difficulty thinking, speaking, or walking, breathing difficulties at rest, and weight gain.
